The Action &
Assessment Grid
Now let’s think about Action and Activity by using a useful grid.
To help you understand the grid, hover your mouse pointer over each person to view the examples that have already been entered into it.
- Emily
Emily has low Activity and low Action. Many people find themselves in this zone. They are not sure what they need to know and tend to take limited action. Often people in this zone have given up, they say they are confused by a subject and they will never learn it. In this situation they may try some last minute revision, which makes them feel even worse as they realise how much there is left to learn. - Steve
Steve has high Activity and low Action. People in this zone have a good idea what needs to be understood, but they don’t take action. This may be due to laziness, or because they’re busy doing less productive things instead, or because they’re badly organised and actions that need to be taken are overlooked. All too often there is not enough time for people in Steve’s position to do a good job so they underperform. - Lisa
Lisa has low Activity and high Action. People in this zone tend to be very hard working. However, because they lack awareness of what needs to be done, that hard work is often wasted effort. People in Lisa’s position may spend too much time doing things that are already understood or not relevant. - Gary
Gary has high Activity and high Action. This fourth zone is the one that is likely to help people perform most effectively. People in Gary's position are aware of what they need to know and take the appropriate action to learn it.
