Finding your Dream Job will help learners to search for their first job. In four easy-to-follow units they’ll learn how to identify their strengths and achievements, search for the ideal job, put together a great CV and complete an application form well and develop excellent interview techniques.

Course details
In this course, pupils will study four mandatory units.
Unit one: You and your career
- This unit will help learners to get started by reviewing their current skills and experience, identifying suitable career opportunities and mapping out an action plan.
Unit two: Job search skills
- Learners will identify and evaluate different sources of career advice, analyse job vacancies and advertisements and think about their individual career needs and aspirations.
Unit three: Applying for jobs
- Covers practical tips to help learners through the application process. Find out how to create a professional Curriculum Vitae (CV), successfully complete a job application form and use email, telephone, letter and faxes effectively.
Unit four: Interview skills
- Reduce the fear factor and find out how to succeed in an interview. Learners will find out how to prepare themselves properly, how to handle an interview situation and how to evaluate their interview performance.
How long does it take?
Finding your Dream Job is a 30-hour course. Pupils can study flexibly at their own pace depending upon the time made available for their studies.
Course delivery and assessment
The course is offered online with vision2learn– an innovative web-based learning system, which you and your pupils can access via PC from school or home. The online course contains all of the learning content needed to meet the assessment requirements of the course, as well as activities to enable your pupils to practise their skills and test their learning receiving additional help and support from you as you are always just a click away.
About the qualification
Studying Finding your Dream Job leads to the accredited qualification NCFE Level 1 Certificate in Employment Skills, which is a great qualification to add to a CV.
In order to successfully achieve a qualification your pupils will need to complete self-assessment exercises as they work through each unit of the course. They will also complete a series of activities, which they’ll send to you through the v-mail system on vision2learn. You will assess these and they will build up to form each pupil’s portfolio of evidence of learning. A certificate will be awarded on satisfactory submission of evidence of learning for all four units.
The computer kit needed
- An Internet enabled PC running MS Windows and Internet Explorer 5 (or later), or Netscape 6 (or later), with JavaScript and cookies enabled
- Email software and an active email account
- Microsoft Word or similar word processing package
- Download Flash player
- Download Adobe Acrobat.
