Equality and Diversity
We live in a culturally diverse society and come into contact with people from all sorts of different backgrounds. This online Equality and Diversity course can help pupils to understand policies and legislation relating to equality and diversity and enable them to develop personally and professionally, in preparation for future employment. To achieve the NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Equality and Diversity (QCF), learners need to complete 1 unit from Section A and 1 unit from Section B.

Course details
In this course, learners will need to work through 1 unit from Section A and 1 unit from Section B to achieve the Certificate. Units one, three and four are currently available on vision2learn for schools.
Here’s a taste of what they will cover:
Section A:
Unit one: Exploring equality and diversity
- The meaning and importance of equality and equal opportunity
- Which individual and social characteristics form the basis of diversity
- How different beliefs and value systems contribute to diversity
- Stereotyping and labelling and their effects
- Prejudice and discrimination and their effects
Unit two: Exploring how people’s rights and responsibilities are protected at
work
(not currently available on vision2learn for schools)
- Prejudice and discrimination and the misconceptions that can underpin them both
- How to recognise prejudicial and discriminatory behaviour and practices
- How organisations promote equality and diversity in the workplace
- How the Human Rights Act (1998) is supported in the local community by different organisations
- How anti–discrimination can be fostered in the workplace
Section B:
Unit three: Working or learning in a place that promotes diversity
- Applying your knowledge of equality and diversity to your workplace, school or learning centre
- How workplaces can have processes in place to protect, maintain and monitor equality and diversity
- The value to the workplace in creating and maintaining a diverse environment
- What can be done to overcome bad practice in the workplace
- The consequences for an organisation of not trying to create and maintain a diverse and equal environment
Unit four: Living in diverse communities
- Understand equality and diversity in your own community
- Investigate and discover the nature of the diversity around you
- How diversity enriches community life
- Explore the threats that exist to equality and diversity
How long does it take?
Equality and Diversity is designed as a 130–hour course. Pupils can study flexibly at their own pace depending upon the time made available for their studies.
Course delivery and assessment
The course is offered online with vision2learn – an innovative web–based learning system, which you and your pupils can access via PC from school or home. The online course contains all of the learning content needed to meet the assessment requirements of the course, as well as activities to enable your pupils to practise their skills and test their learning receiving additional help and support from you as you are always just a click away.
About the qualification
Studying Equality and Diversity leads to the accredited qualification NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Equality and Diversity (QCF), which helps your pupils to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of this subject. In order to successfully achieve the qualification your pupils will need to complete a series of assessments as they work through their chosen units. You will assess these and they will build up to form each pupil’s portfolio of evidence of learning. A certificate will be awarded on satisfactory submission of evidence of learning for 1 unit from Section A and 1 unit from Section B.

As this is an online course, you will need access to:
- An Internet enabled PC running Microsoft Windows operating system
