Be Smart
Be Smart could be used by all year seven students, who could use it again in year nine as a refresher resource. It can also be sign posted for any KS4 learner who has a closed mindset who is displaying signs of a self-limiting belief about their ability to learn.
The resource has 5 Sessions:

Resource details
During this short programme, learners will work through 5 Sessions. Here’s a taste of what they will cover:
Session 1: Salute your brilliant brain
In this Session learners will discover that:
- They have a brilliant brain
- Their brain has unlimited potential.
Session 2: Map your massive learning capability
This Session shows students that:
- They already have a huge amount of knowledge
- They are an expert on certain subjects
- They are learning new things every day
- They have the potential to learn much more.
Session 3: Attack the gremlins
In this Session students will learn that:
- ‘Gremlins’ are negative thoughts that can prevent them from learning effectively
- The gremlins are not real and they need to challenge them.
Session 4: Recognise your talent
This Session helps learners to discover that:
- There are many different types of intelligence
- People learn in different ways.
Session 5: Take action!
This Session helps learners to improve their ability to learn by:
- Ensuring that their brain is ready to learn – they stay healthy, relax and have written learning goals
- Laying out a step-by-step approach that shows them how to keep going when things appear difficult.
How long does it take?
Be Smart is a short ‘Learning to Learn’ resource. Pupils can work through the programme flexibly at their own pace depending upon the time made available for their studies.
Resource delivery and assessment
All current learners will find a ‘Learning to Learn’ tab in the navigation bar of their My Study area – Be Smart can be found here.
The programme is offered online as a resource on vision2learn for schools – an innovative web-based learning system, which you and your pupils can access via PC from school or home. This short online resource contains learning content, short quizzes and activities to enable your pupils to test their learning and reinforce their skills, whilst receiving additional help and support from you as you are always just a click away.
About the resource
Be Smart is a ‘Learning to Learn’ resource and is part of our suite of ‘performance boosters’. It’s designed to support other learning programmes that students may be completing.
In order to get the most from the resource your pupils will need to complete short exercises and quizzes as they work through each session. They will also complete a series of practical activities which they can show to their teacher and keep on file.
The computer kit you’ll need
- An Internet enabled PC running Microsoft Windows operating system
- Web browser – Internet Explorer 6.0 (or later); Firefox 2.0 (or later); Opera 8.5 (or later)
- Session cookies should be enabled
- JavaScript should be enabled
- Microsoft Word (You may need additional Microsoft Office applications and/or other software programs for some courses). For specific details, please refer to the course information
- Acrobat Reader (Download latest version here)
- Flash player 6.0 or later (Download latest version here).
